Soloist with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra
Lois will be piccolo soloist with the Ocean City Pops on Sunday July 26, 2009
performing Joseph La Monaca's, Saltarello. Details found at the Ocean City Pops website.
Rediscovered last year by Lois Bliss Herbine, the Saltarello is the first
known modern-day piccolo solo with orchestral accompaniment. Written by
Philadelphia Orchestra flutist, Ocean City Municipal Orchestra conductor and
composer Joseph La Monaca, it is a four-minute work used to demonstrate the
piccolo at the Philadelphia Orchestra Youth Concerts as conducted by Leopold
Stokowski in the 1930's.
Residency at the International Piccolo Symposium
Lois will be artist-in-residence June 11-14, 2009 at the International Piccolo
Symposium with piccoloists Dr. Christine Beard (USA) and "the Paganini
of the piccolo", Jean-Louis Beaumadier (France). Visit the official International Piccolo Symposium website
for information. A Flute Talk magazine article by auditor and freelancer Abraham
Gonzales Jr. on Lois' 2007 residency with Dr. Beard and Maggio Musicale
Florentino's Nicola Mazzanti can be accessesed from the IPS site.
